The advent of the advent

I love the tradition of advent calendars, and you really can let your imagination run wild with
them. Here a few of my favourite ideas:

- Keep it simple and write a Christmas themed activity on your existing wall calendar for each day.
- Go deep on Pinterest and sew your own reusable pocket calendar and fill them with package-free treats from your local bulk store.
I have a friend who had one made by a local crafter using sentimental linen and clothing from when her daughter was a baby which made it all the more special.
- Go DIY styles and make an upcycled calendar using things from around the house. It doesn't have to be complicated, even some jars with numbers drawn on them would work!

This year, my 8 year old and I foraged things from around home and got our craft on. Yep it was more time consuming, but it was pretty special working on it together.

I got inspo from Morning Creativity and tackled this fabulous cardboard roll house! Toilet rolls work well, but cut paper towel rolls will also work if you prefer.
You can find a few tutorials on YouTube, but they all used a bit too much hot glue for my liking, so we did a version where you can use a DIY natural glue or a glue stick. Here are a few images to give you a feel for how we tackled it.
