Green is the new black

I wanted to green up my wardrobe.
It was something I hadn’t really thought about before, but it turns out the fashion industry can be a bit of a shocker when it comes to waste and chemicals.

Whilst it can be a great option to donate clothes after you’re done with them, the volume that the world is producing has got a bit out of control.

I’m going to share with you my highly technical and ‘patented’ three step process to greening up your wardrobe.

Step 1: Less is more
I was ruthless.
I didn’t need that many clothes.
There was only a small proportion of my clothes that I actually wore on a regular basis. I know what I feel good in, and I had so many things that I kept because I wanted to wear them – but never did or I felt bad getting rid of them.
I cleared out over 200 items. I sold some, donated some, ragged some and even composted some!
It sounds ridiculous, but it has saved me time. It’s so much easier getting dressed in the morning, and packing to go away is a freaken breeze.

Step 2: Fix it, find it, buy it
I’ve got myself a new friend. Her name is June. She is a magician masquerading as a tailor.
I take her my clothes and she nips, tucks and magics them into something more fabulous. I have a girl crush on June.
When I need to replace something, my first step is secondhand. There’s an awesome array of designer second hand clothing stores and the interweb is also pretty awesome at finding pre-loved bargains.
If I buy new; I buy to last and try and buy local.

Step 3: Share the love…
Renting fashion is totally a thing now. I stumbled on this site when I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding.
It was a game changer! So many amazing things to wear that I couldn’t normally be arsed to shop for.
Anyone can list their clothes and it’s such a cool way to get more wear out of things and cut down on the amount of stuff in the world.

Simple changes – big impact
